the strengthening of space.

My works are monuments of tranquil, activating power. Each image tells of a moment of intense engagement with motifs full of strength. But what we think we see is often not what it actually is.

The starting point for every work is the idea of capturing the specific strength of a motif on site – formally, in terms of content and philosophically. Only after this immersive exploration does the artistic process begin – with a photograph.

What follows is transformation: digitally created silhouettes are distorted through the play with details, radical reduction and extreme enlargement. Concrete forms thus give rise to powerful, illusory abstractions, and what remains is the aesthetic essence of strength. On large-format canvases, I now bring the motifs back into the real, tangible world using the finest hand-cut stencils and monochrome acrylic paints. Precise, sharp colour edges interact with a spontaneous, impasto structure. Technically, it is a combination of hard-edge painting and minimalism – with a touch of the intuitive, gestural style of Informel.

The result is works that convey calm and at the same time activate. Works that create clarity and irritate. But above all, works are created that strengthen the space and the people in it and change perception – the perception of strength.

line: ranger.

The wilderness is not romantic. It is radical. A place of creation and decay, characterised by strength, weakness and constant change. It is governed by principles of survival – and physically, Homo sapiens is clearly inferior to the wilderness.

Almost every animal in the wild is faster, stronger and more effective in its element. But what we lack in physical strength, we have compensated for with intelligence, adaptability and technology. This has enabled us to rise to the top everywhere – and subjugate nature, which was once superior to us. What followed was a tragic turning point: the once wild, indomitable wilderness is now vulnerable and fragile. Only one species can save it – the very species that threatens it: humans.

Ranger or more accurately ‘anti-poaching units’ (APU), are the ones who courageously take on part of this responsibility. They are people who put their lives on the line every day in the service of the wilderness, and they fight not symbolically, but in very real terms. Day after day, under extreme conditions, they battle greed, violence and destruction. They are the last defenders of a world that can no longer defend itself.

In the ‘Ranger’ line, I combine several strengthening essences from the ‘Bodyguards of Wild Animals’ to make them tangible for the observers.

series: boots.

Boots offer protection. Sturdy, reliable and designed for extreme conditions, they carry us through heat, cold, mud, ice and sharp stones. Their firm shaft protects, their tread provides grip and their robustness ensures safety.

But a boot is more than that. Beyond its practical function, it embodies attitude and becomes a symbol. A symbol of determination and adventure. It prepares you for the unknown, and those who wear it stand firm, feel capable and confident – and therefore dare to do more.

Above all, however, boots stand for freedom and possibility. For the possibility of going anywhere, never standing still and never letting anything hold you back. They stand for the ability to reach your goal – no matter how rough and unreal the ground may be.

For me, the boot thus becomes a symbol of the ‘enabling’ – and is therefore a clear symbol of essential, immediate strength. In the ‘Boot’ series, I depict this enabling strength of extraordinary units and individuals who depend on this form of strength.
